Glo Lights Up 2025 Ofala Festival with Exciting Prizes and Cultural Splendour
Telecommunications giant, Globacom, once again reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Nigerian culture with a remarkable presence at the 2025 Ofala Festival in Onitsha, which culminated in the grand presentation of prizes to winners of the Ofala Promo.
Having sponsored the revered cultural event for 14 consecutive years, Globacom added a thrilling dimension to this year’s festivities through its specially designed promo, blending tradition with modern excitement.
The festival, held at the Ime Obi Palace, Onitsha, featured two major ceremonies the Iru Ofala on Friday and the Azu Ofala on Saturday both marking significant milestones in the centuries-old tradition of the Onitsha people.
The Iru Ofala was particularly symbolic as the Obi of Onitsha made his first public appearance following a period of spiritual retreat, signifying his readiness to usher in a new year of peace and prosperity. Dressed regally in his traditional attire, His Imperial Majesty received homage from chiefs, titled men, and subjects in a display of deep cultural reverence.
The event attracted a host of distinguished personalities including the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu; former Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha; former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi; and the Director General, National Council for Arts and Culture, Obi Asika, among others.
In his remarks, the Obi of Onitsha expressed appreciation to Globacom for its unwavering partnership, saying:
“We thank them for believing in us, and I trust that the mutual benefits we all derive from this festival will continue to flourish.”
The Azu Ofala, which marked the festival’s grand finale, was a colourful community celebration and a day of thanksgiving. Globacom made the occasion even more memorable with the conclusion of its special Ofala Promo, tailored exclusively for the Onitsha community.
Lucky winners from the four-week-long promo received various prizes including a brand-new Kia Picanto, two tricycles (Keke), power-generating sets, and grinding machines.
The star prize, a Kia Picanto, was won by Chidinma Esther Obi, a businesswoman from the 33 area of Onitsha. She received the car keys from Chief Albert Ibekwe (Odu Osodi) and Globacom’s representative, Tochukwu Okechukwu.
Other winners, Ibeziakor Onyebuchi Anthony and Ejike Chiememma Gloria, each went home with a tricycle, while several others received valuable household and business equipment ensuring that the 2025 Ofala Festival concluded on a note of joy, empowerment, and celebration.
