Glo Extends Ofala Sponsorship, Reaffirms Global Vision
Globacom has announced the renewal of its sponsorship of the Ofala Festival in Onitsha, Anambra State, confirming support for the 2025 edition and extending the partnership for an additional three years.
The annual cultural celebration is a key traditional rite performed by His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha. This year’s festival will feature the Iru Ofala on October 17 and the Azu Ofala on October 18.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the Ofala Festival Organising Committee on Thursday at Ime Obi, the Obi’s Palace in Onitsha, Globacom explained that it has supported the event since 2011 in recognition of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and its capacity to create jobs and stimulate economic growth.
The company reaffirmed its vision to elevate the festival to a global platform, noting:
“In 2025, Nigeria’s tourism sector is projected to contribute ₦11.2 trillion to GDP, up from ₦10.9 trillion in 2024. Domestic tourism expenditure is expected to reach ₦6.1 trillion, while international visitor spending is forecast at about ₦803.2 billion. These figures underscore a vital truth: culture and tourism are not luxuries, but essential drivers of our economy, our identity, and our future. Globacom is committed to advancing that future. Our support for Ofala reflects our belief that investing in culture yields benefits beyond finances—it fosters community, supports jobs and businesses, and inspires pride.”
Globacom disclosed that its 2025 sponsorship will include initiatives designed to reward subscribers. The company revealed plans for a special customer package during the festivities, alongside continued nationwide roll-out and upgrades of 4G-LTE infrastructure, particularly across the South East, to enhance both voice and data services.
It also highlighted two new products introduced earlier in the week: Talkmasta, which offers customers additional talk time and data at no extra cost, and the Welcome Bonus, which provides new subscribers with exceptional benefits.
Chairman of the Strategic Marketing and Communications Committee, Mr. Nnaemeka Maduegbuna, outlined the festival’s programme, which begins with the annual Ofala Lecture on October 7 and continues with the Oreze Art Exhibition showcasing Nigerian and African artistry. Other highlights include the Ofala Youth Carnival on October 15, a Medical, Health and Wellbeing Community Outreach, the Iru Ofala on October 17, the Azu Ofala on October 18, and a Royal Banquet in honour of Igwe Achebe on October 22.
Maduegbuna assured that comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure a memorable celebration, with particular emphasis on visitor comfort and security. Senior palace chiefs and members of the organising committee were also present at the briefing.
