President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has said the planned Initial Public Offering (IPO) of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is designed to give ordinary Nigerians an opportunity to own shares in the landmark facility.

Dangote described the planned public offering as an IPO “for the people,” saying the subscription process was being simplified to enable both experienced and first-time investors to participate with minimal bureaucracy.

He said the initiative was not solely aimed at raising capital but also at promoting broader participation in wealth creation and allowing Nigerians to directly benefit from the refinery’s growth.

“This refinery belongs to Nigerians and Africans. It was built to transform our economy, create prosperity, and secure our energy future. We want the people to share in that success,” Dangote said.

According to him, anyone with a Bank Verification Number (BVN) will be able to participate in the offer, while technology-driven subscription channels will be deployed to make the process simple and accessible.

The businessman said the simplified framework would enable civil servants, artisans, traders, professionals, young entrepreneurs, cooperative societies, pension contributors and Nigerians in the diaspora to participate in the offer.

Dangote said the IPO was also intended to address the concentration of wealth by creating an opportunity for millions of Nigerians to own a stake in one of Africa’s most important industrial assets.

“People should not only benefit as consumers of refined petroleum products; they should also benefit as owners. We are creating a pathway through which everyday Nigerians can participate directly in the growth story of this refinery,” he added.
He further noted that broad-based ownership would help deepen Nigeria’s capital market and promote inclusive economic growth.

Dangote recalled that previous public offerings by companies within the Dangote Group had created opportunities for investors to benefit through capital appreciation and dividends, expressing optimism that the refinery’s long-term prospects would similarly create value for shareholders.

Market observers have described the planned listing as one of the major anticipated transactions in Africa’s capital market, given the refinery’s strategic importance to Nigeria’s energy security, industrialisation, foreign exchange earnings and regional trade.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, with a stated capacity of 700,000 barrels per day, is designed as a single-train refinery and has expanded Nigeria’s domestic refining capacity while supporting the export of refined petroleum products to markets within and outside Africa.

Dangote reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transparency, corporate governance and sustainable shareholder value, adding that details of the offer structure, subscription channels and participation guidelines would be released through the appropriate regulatory and market channels.

He described the refinery as more than an industrial project, saying its planned public ownership would allow Nigerians to become part of its long-term growth story.
