Manchester United Rescue Dramatic 4-4 Draw Against Aston Villa in Eight-Goal Thriller
Manchester United staged a remarkable late comeback to secure a 4-4 draw against Aston Villa in a thrilling Premier League encounter at Old Trafford on Sunday, November 8, 2026.
The Red Devils twice came from two goals behind to salvage a point in an entertaining encounter that saw both sides produce eight goals.
Aston Villa got off to a blistering start, taking a two-goal lead within the opening four minutes.
Alysson opened the scoring in the first minute after connecting with John McGinn’s pass before Nicolas Jackson doubled Villa’s advantage three minutes later, capitalising on a rebound after Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens failed to hold Alysson’s initial effort.
United responded in the 16th minute when captain Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review confirmed that Boubacar Kamara had fouled Matheus Cunha inside the penalty area.
The hosts continued to press for an equaliser and eventually restored parity in the 44th minute through Youri Tielemans, who finished off a pass from Noussair Mazraoui with a first-time effort.
However, Villa regained the lead shortly after the restart when McGinn converted a penalty in the 48th minute following Diogo Dalot’s foul on Alysson.
Leon Goretzka further increased Villa’s advantage in the 53rd minute, finishing from close range after Lammens failed to deal with a set-piece situation.
With United trailing 4-2, the home side appeared destined for another disappointing result until substitute Joshua Zirkzee reignited their hopes in the 90th minute, converting Patrick Dorgu’s pass to reduce the deficit.
Dorgu then completed the dramatic comeback six minutes into stoppage time, finding the net after a goalmouth scramble to earn Manchester United a share of the points.
The result extended Aston Villa’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to six matches, comprising three wins and three draws.
Despite the spirited comeback, Manchester United’s difficult league campaign continued, with the club having recorded just one victory in its opening 10 league matches.
The result also leaves Michael Carrick’s side under pressure as concerns continue over the club’s disappointing performances this season.
For Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, the encounter will be remembered as a missed opportunity after his team twice surrendered a two-goal advantage.
The dramatic draw provided an entertaining conclusion to the encounter, with Manchester United demonstrating resilience to avoid defeat after appearing on course for another setback.
