Ondo CP Leads Walkathon to Mark 2026 International Youth Day
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, on Friday led officers and personnel of the Command on a walkathon to commemorate the 2026 International Youth Day in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The exercise, which began at the Police Officers’ Mess, Alagbaka, Akure, brought together police personnel, members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS) and the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).
The participants moved through major locations within the Akure metropolis as part of activities marking the international celebration. The walkathon served not only as a physical fitness exercise but also as an avenue for the police to engage young people and members of the public on issues affecting youth development and community safety.
Speaking during the exercise, CP Felix Ohagwu reiterated the commitment of the Ondo State Police Command to strengthening its partnership with young people, stressing that youths remain critical stakeholders in the efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous society.
The police commissioner urged young people across the state to shun cultism, political thuggery, violence, drug abuse and other forms of criminality, encouraging them instead to channel their energy and talents into education, entrepreneurship, leadership and other productive ventures.
CP Ohagwu also emphasised the importance of youth participation in promoting peace and security, noting that a meaningful partnership between security agencies and young people would contribute significantly to crime prevention and sustainable development.
The walkathon formed part of the Command’s broader community-engagement efforts aimed at building trust, promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging youths to become positive contributors to the security and development of Ondo State and Nigeria.
