Ondo Police, Immigration Deepen Security Collaboration on Border Security, Crime Prevention

Newslens NG reports that Ondo State Police Command and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ondo State Command, have pledged to strengthen inter-agency collaboration towards improving border security, combating trans-border crimes and enhancing public safety across the state.

The commitment was made on Monday, September 7, 2026, when the newly posted Controller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ondo State Command, CIS Peter Nnadiegbulem Iregbu, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, at the Police State Headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.

Speaking during the visit, Iregbu stressed the importance of closer cooperation between the two security agencies in tackling crimes with cross-border implications.

He identified irregular migration, document forgery and travelling-document violations among issues requiring sustained attention and stronger coordination between the NIS and the Police.

The Immigration Controller called for improved intelligence and information sharing, joint operational activities and better coordination between personnel of both agencies.

According to him, effective border management remains critical to internal security, as well as the protection of lives and property.

Iregbu assured the Ondo State Police Command of the continued support of the Nigeria Immigration Service within its statutory mandate.

He also urged members of the public to obtain Nigerian passports through legitimate channels and adhere to established documentation procedures, warning against patronising fraudulent agents.

Responding, CP Felix Ohagwu welcomed the Immigration Controller and his delegation, describing the courtesy visit as an important step towards further strengthening the existing relationship between the two agencies.

The Commissioner assured the NIS of the readiness of the Ondo State Police Command to work closely with the Immigration Service to safeguard the state and protect residents from criminal elements.

Ohagwu urged personnel of both agencies to remain united, professional and focused in the discharge of their respective responsibilities.

He noted that a strong working relationship between the Police and Immigration Service would enhance their collective capacity to prevent, detect and respond effectively to criminal activities.

The Commissioner further emphasised the importance of sustained cooperation among security agencies, particularly in intelligence gathering, information sharing and coordinated responses to emerging security threats.

Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to working within their respective statutory mandates to secure Ondo State’s borders, protect lives and property, and create a safer environment for residents, visitors and legitimate travellers.

The engagement was witnessed by members of the Ondo State Police Command Management Team and officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The visit culminated in the presentation of a commemorative plaque by CP Ohagwu to the Immigration Controller, followed by a group photograph to mark the occasion and reaffirm the commitment of both agencies to sustained collaboration in promoting security and public safety in Ondo State.
