Tragedy in Ondo as Three Siblings Die at Owena Farm, CP Orders Thorough Investigation

Newslens NG reports that tragedy struck at a farm around the Owena Army Barracks area of Akure, Ondo State, after three siblings who reportedly accompanied their father to the farm were found dead near a small river within the premises.

The victims, identified as Joshua Jonah, 11, Jacob Jonah, 11, and their five-year-old sister, Blessing Jonah, were reportedly at the farm with their father, Samuel Jonah, on Friday, September 4, 2026.

According to the Ondo State Police Command, the children reportedly left the farm and headed towards home while their father remained at the farm.

However, concern arose when Samuel returned home and discovered that the three children were missing.

The development prompted a search for the siblings, with efforts subsequently leading to the discovery of their bodies on Saturday, September 5.

The bodies were found around the bank of a small river located within the farm, leaving the circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths unclear.

The Police Command has since commenced investigation into the incident, as authorities work to establish what exactly happened to the children before their bodies were discovered.

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, has ordered a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.

The Command said investigators are diligently documenting available facts and examining the circumstances surrounding the children’s presence at the farm, their movement from the location and the eventual discovery of their bodies.

The Police stressed that the investigation is aimed at establishing the exact circumstances leading to the deaths and determining whether any other factors may have contributed to the tragedy.

While the location of the bodies near a river has been established, the Police Command has not attributed the deaths to drowning or any other specific cause, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to the bereaved family, describing the incident as unfortunate and assuring the family that the Command would pursue the investigation diligently.

CP Ohagwu further urged members of the public to exercise patience and refrain from drawing premature conclusions while the investigation continues.

The Command also used the incident to caution parents and guardians on the need to exercise heightened vigilance over children, particularly when visiting farms, riversides, streams, ponds and other locations where children may be exposed to danger.

It advised parents and guardians to ensure that children are closely supervised around bodies of water and other potentially hazardous environments to reduce the risk of avoidable accidents and loss of lives.

The tragic incident has left the family and community in mourning as the Police continue efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the three siblings.

Further developments from the investigation are expected as the Ondo State Police Command continues its inquiry into the incident.
