VIDEO: Why Tinubu Picked Himself As 2027 APC Campaign Council Chairman – Dino Melaye Reveals
Newslens NG reports that the former Kogi West Senator and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dino Melaye, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu appointed himself chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council because he does not trust members of his party.
Melaye made the allegation in a video shared on his social media platforms on Sunday, while reacting to the composition of the ruling party’s campaign council for the 2027 presidential election.
The former lawmaker described Tinubu’s decision to serve as chairman of his own campaign council as unusual, arguing that it was unprecedented for a presidential candidate to simultaneously head the campaign organisation for his own election.
According to Melaye, the development suggests that the President is “jittery” and allegedly does not have confidence in some of the governors and ministers around him.
He claimed that Tinubu’s decision was driven by concerns over possible divisions within the APC ahead of the 2027 election.
Melaye also criticised the size and structure of the campaign council, describing it as “very, very, very bogus.”
The ADC chieftain, however, reserved his strongest criticism for the appointment of Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), as Deputy Director of Fundraising for Tinubu’s campaign.
Melaye argued that Adedeji’s simultaneous role as head of the nation’s revenue-collecting agency and a senior official in a partisan campaign structure could amount to a conflict of interest.
He said he would approach the court to challenge the appointment, insisting that public officials are expected to comply with the Public Service Rules and relevant ethical provisions.
The APC released its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council list on Saturday, naming Tinubu as chairman, Vice President Kashim Shettima as Vice Chairman I and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda as Vice Chairman II.
Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was named Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was appointed Secretary. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun was listed as Director of Fundraising, with Adedeji as his deputy.
Melaye, a vocal opponent of Tinubu’s re-election bid, vowed to continue challenging the President politically and legally ahead of the 2027 election.
Note: Melaye’s explanation of why Tinubu appointed himself campaign chairman is an allegation and political interpretation; neither Tinubu nor the APC has publicly confirmed that fear or distrust was the reason for the appointment.
