Tinubu Mourns NAF Personnel Killed in Ondo Jet Crash, Orders Probe

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State, ordering an immediate and thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.

The aircraft reportedly crashed on Monday morning near a naval base in Igbokoda while on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos.

The President commiserated with the families of the 25 passengers and seven crew members involved in the crash, as well as the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and officers and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force.

Tinubu described the incident as a painful moment for the Armed Forces and the nation, stressing that military personnel routinely risk their lives in the service of the country.

“This is a painful moment for our Armed Forces and for the entire nation. Our Air Force personnel put their lives on the line every day to secure Nigeria. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the President said.
According to the President, the Chief of the Air Staff had briefed him on the incident, following which he directed the Nigerian Air Force to commence an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

He said the investigation was necessary to establish the cause of the accident and help prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Tinubu also commended the Nigerian Air Force for promptly activating its search and rescue operation following the crash, while praising first responders and the Ondo State Government for their swift response at the scene.

“I pray for the repose of the souls of the gallant officers and for Almighty God to grant their families and the Nigerian Air Force the fortitude to bear the unfortunate loss,” he said.

The President further assured the Nigerian Air Force of his administration’s continued support as the service carries out its constitutional responsibility of protecting the nation.
