Blood on the Battlefield, Silence in Aso Rock: Nigerians Demand Action from Tinubu

Nigeria’s worsening security crisis has once again come under intense public scrutiny following reports of the killing of 15 soldiers in Borno State. The incident has reignited national conversations about the safety of citizens, the effectiveness of current security strategies, and the urgency of decisive leadership in addressing the country’s persistent security challenges.

Across various parts of the country, citizens continue to grapple with the realities of insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and violent attacks that have claimed thousands of lives and displaced countless families. The latest loss of military personnel has deepened public concern and renewed calls for urgent action from the Federal Government.

For many Nigerians, the death of soldiers on the frontlines represents more than a military setback. It is a painful reminder of the sacrifices being made daily by security personnel in defence of the nation. The tragedy has also raised questions about whether enough is being done to support security forces and protect vulnerable communities.

Commenting on the situation, Presidential aspirant, Prof. Favour Ayodele described the incident as a wake-up call for national leadership.

“When soldiers who have dedicated their lives to protecting the nation continue to fall in large numbers, it should concern every Nigerian. The protection of lives must remain the highest priority of government,” Ayodele said.

The growing insecurity has generated widespread frustration among citizens who believe that stronger and more visible interventions are required to reverse the trend. In many affected communities, residents continue to live in fear while economic activities suffer under the weight of persistent violence and uncertainty.

Prof. Favour Ayodele argued that Nigerians are increasingly demanding practical solutions rather than assurances.

“The country is not asking for speeches alone. Nigerians want to see measurable progress, safer communities, reduced attacks, and a security architecture capable of responding swiftly and effectively to threats,” he stated.

Security experts have repeatedly emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach that combines military operations with intelligence gathering, technology-driven surveillance, border security reforms, community engagement, and socio-economic development programmes designed to address the root causes of insecurity.

As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to face mounting expectations from citizens who believe the moment calls for bold decisions and strategic leadership. While security agencies remain engaged in ongoing operations against criminal elements, public concern persists over the frequency and severity of attacks across various regions of the country.

According to Prof. Favour Ayodele, national security should transcend political considerations.

“At moments like this, politics must take a back seat. Every life lost weakens the nation and deepens the pain of affected families. The focus must be on protecting Nigerians and restoring confidence in the state’s ability to secure its people.”

The security situation has also renewed discussions about the need for accountability, improved coordination among security agencies, and adequate funding and equipment for personnel operating in high-risk areas.

For many observers, the current challenge represents a defining test of leadership and governance. Citizens, civil society organizations, traditional institutions, and security analysts continue to call for stronger measures to stem the tide of violence and restore peace in affected communities.

Prof. Favour Ayodele believes that Nigeria still possesses the capacity to overcome its security challenges if the necessary political will is demonstrated.

“Nigeria has overcome difficult periods before. What is required now is decisive leadership, strategic action, and an unwavering commitment to the protection of lives. The nation must act with urgency because every delay comes at a human cost.”
