Reports indicate that the players discovered the missing cash after returning to their hotel rooms and promptly raised the matter with the hotel management. One of the affected players, Esther Okoronkwo, reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the response she received from hotel officials, alleging that housekeeping staff may have been responsible for the theft.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) nor the management of the Marriott Hotel has issued an official statement on the incident or confirmed whether a formal investigation has commenced.
