Toluwanisings’ Widow Agrees to Home Burial as Associate Appeals for End to Online Attacks
The widow of late Nigerian gospel singer, Toluwanisings, has reportedly agreed to have her husband’s remains buried at their residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a disagreement with his family over his final resting place.
The decision was disclosed by the late singer’s close associate and colleague, Lanre Alewilese, in a video shared on Instagram on Sunday.
The development comes amid growing controversy surrounding the burial arrangements of the 32-year-old gospel artiste, whose death has continued to generate reactions across social media.
Earlier, members of the singer’s family had alleged that his widow, Damilola Olayemi, opposed plans to bury him at their Ibadan residence, reportedly preferring that he be laid to rest in a cemetery or another designated burial ground.
However, the singer’s father had insisted that his son should be buried in the house he built in Ibadan. He had also indicated that if the arrangement could not be achieved, the remains should be taken to his hometown and buried beside his late mother.
The disagreement sparked widespread reactions online, with some social media users criticising the widow and questioning the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
Speaking amid the controversy, Alewilese described the disagreement between the widow and her father-in-law as a misunderstanding that had now been resolved.
He disclosed that both parties had reached an agreement to have the late singer buried at his residence in Ibadan.
Appealing to Nigerians to exercise restraint, Alewilese urged members of the public to stop attacking the widow, stressing that she was already going through a difficult period following the loss of her husband.
He said, “Please, for God’s sake, let peace reign. Damilola is very young for what she’s currently going through. I’m very close to the deceased; his wife is accommodating. All his band members can attest to this.”
He added that the disagreement had been resolved and appealed to the singer’s fans to allow the widow to grieve without further public criticism.
The associate further urged Nigerians to demonstrate compassion and understanding, noting that the priority should be allowing the family to resolve the burial arrangements peacefully.
The development marks a significant step towards resolving the controversy surrounding the final resting place of the late gospel singer.
