Adeleke Reopens Talks With Oyetola’s Camp, Seeks Unity for Tinubu’s Re-election
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has renewed his appeal to former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and his political associates to join the state’s Presidential Campaign Council and support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, disclosed this on Monday during an interview on Rave FM, while addressing concerns surrounding the inauguration of the Osun State chapter of the Presidential Campaign Council.
Rasheed explained that the council was constituted at the national level and that Adeleke, as its Osun State Coordinator, proceeded with the inauguration following directives from the national leadership.
He said the governor had personally reached out to several political stakeholders, including Oyetola, former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji, APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru, former Governor Bisi Akande, former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore and the Southwest Coordinator, Professor Iyiola Adeyeye.
According to the spokesperson, some of the leaders responded to the governor’s calls and mobilised their associates, while Akande, Adeyeye and other APC figures attended the inauguration.
Addressing concerns over the process of inviting political leaders to the event, Rasheed said the urgency surrounding the inauguration informed the governor’s decision to contact some stakeholders directly.
He added that Adeleke was extending a fresh invitation to Oyetola and his associates, urging them to put aside their reservations and work collectively within the campaign council.
Rasheed said the governor was reopening communication channels with political leaders to ensure broader participation in the mobilisation effort ahead of the presidential election.
He also disclosed that the council would soon establish subcommittees to coordinate various aspects of the campaign and strengthen collaboration among political stakeholders in the state.
According to him, the governor’s primary objective is to unite political leaders in Osun behind Tinubu’s re-election, rather than pursue personal or partisan interests.
Rasheed further referenced the family relationship between Tinubu and Oyetola, arguing that supporting the President’s re-election should be a collective responsibility among those committed to his political success.
He urged stakeholders to move beyond disagreements over invitations and participation in the inauguration, stressing the need for cooperation in the overall interest of the campaign.
The spokesperson also disclosed that the governor was targeting 1.5 million votes for Tinubu in Osun State, describing the mobilisation effort as a major objective of the campaign council.
The renewed appeal comes amid efforts to bring political stakeholders together under the Osun Presidential Campaign Council as preparations continue for its committee structure and subsequent campaign activities.
