Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will resign from office if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fails to win the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the declaration on Wednesday while addressing leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja. He said his continued stay in office would be tied to his ability to deliver electoral support for the President in the two territories.

The former Rivers State governor said he would announce his resignation on January 17, 2027, a day after the presidential election, if Tinubu loses both the FCT and Rivers State.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here. If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister,” Wike said.

He added that he considered Rivers State his home while the FCT was the place where he currently worked, stressing that he was determined to secure support for Tinubu in both territories.

Wike also disclosed that a multi-party coalition was being developed in the FCT to support Tinubu and other candidates backed by his political group ahead of the 2027 elections.

He endorsed former FCT Senator Philip Aduda for the Senate and said the coalition would also support two former Area Council chairmen seeking seats in the House of Representatives.

“Let us be clear on direction: for the Presidency, it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu! For the Senate, Philip Aduda is a man of the people,” he said.

The FCT minister further stated that the coalition would operate across party lines, describing it as a unified political arrangement aimed at securing electoral results in the territory.

“In the FCT, we are running a unified coalition across parties to deliver results,” Wike said.

His latest declaration comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections. Wike has consistently expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election while maintaining that the Peoples Democratic Party can field candidates in other elective contests.
