Glo Celebrates 20 Years of Ojude Oba Sponsorship with Grand Festivities, Car and Tricycle Giveaways

Digital telecommunications giant, Globacom, celebrated its 20th consecutive sponsorship of the iconic Ojude Oba Festival in grand style on Sunday in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. The milestone edition was marked by the presentation of brand-new cars, tricycles, power generators, and other valuable items to deserving members of the Ijebu community.
The event, held at the palace of the Awujale of Ijebuland, drew dignitaries including the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun; the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa-Musawa; and the Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland, Olorogun Sunny Kuku, among others.
The festival featured vibrant displays by nearly 100 Regberegbe (age-grade) groups, who competed in colourful pageantry and cultural showcases, alongside the renowned Balogun families who thrilled onlookers with their horseback parades in honour of the Awujale, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
In his address, Governor Abiodun extolled the monarch’s six-decade reign as “purposeful, progressive and deeply impactful,” while Minister Musa-Musawa hailed Ojude Oba as a symbol of Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity and enduring traditions.
Globacom used the occasion to reward various segments of the Ijebu community. Each Regberegbe group received premium-grade Basmati rice, and several individuals were honoured with prizes ranging from power generators to sewing and grinding machines.
Highlighting the reward segment, two brand-new cars were given out. One recipient, Opeoluwa Osisanwo, 52, a dedicated community leader and Secretary of the Ojude Oba Festival Planning Committee, was nominated by the Ijebu community for his outstanding service. “I never knew people were watching me. I was just serving my land of birth to the best of my ability,” he remarked, expressing gratitude to the Awujale and committee members.
The second car winner, Idowu Olabisi, a trader from Ijebu Igbo, emerged through a Globacom airtime usage-based promotion. Overwhelmed with joy, she described the prize as a “miraculous Eid gift” from the company.
Four brand-new tricycles (Keke) were also awarded to residents including Hassan Toheeb, a businessman from Ijebu Itele; Adenike Olanrewaju, a plank seller from Molipa, Ijebu Ode; Gazal Temitope, a trader from Olisa, Ijebu Ode; and Lawal Tosin, a carpenter also from Ijebu Ode.
Globacom’s enduring support for Ojude Oba continues to underscore its commitment to cultural preservation and community empowerment across Nigeria.
