Ondo Police Command Dismisses Allegation of Forcing Officers to Fund Election Deployment
The Ondo State Police Command has strongly refuted a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) were instructed to contribute ₦39,000 each to facilitate the deployment of personnel to Lagos for the upcoming local government elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command described the report as “entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate attempt to distort facts.”
According to the Command, no directive was issued compelling any officer to make financial contributions towards the deployment, which was carried out in compliance with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s directive to bolster security during the elections.
The statement emphasized that inter-command cooperation for election duties is a standard operational procedure within the Nigeria Police Force, aimed at ensuring peaceful and secure electoral processes. It further noted that all logistical and welfare arrangements were made by the Command, ensuring that deployed officers bore no personal financial burden.
Describing the publication as “misleading and unprofessional,” the Command criticized the report’s author for failing to understand police protocol and for intentionally disseminating misinformation to tarnish the image of the police.
The Ondo State Police Command urged members of the public to disregard the claims and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and public trust in its operations.
