ZION MINISTRY ESTABLISHES N600M FREE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL IN ANAMBRA
Barely five months after unveiling a state-of-the-art Orphanage and Elderly Home in Mgbirichi, Imo State, the Seraphic Homes Foundation a non-profit charity founded by Evangelist Chukwuebuka Anozie Obi, Spiritual Director of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach — has commissioned a N600 million free-treatment Psychiatric Hospital and Elderly Care Centre in Anambra State.
The facility, located in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, was inaugurated on Friday by Governor Chukwuma Soludo. It is designed to provide comprehensive psychiatric care completely free of charge, covering diagnosis, treatment, medication, rehabilitation, accommodation, and welfare for patients and their families.
Speaking at the event, Evangelist Obi described the hospital as the fulfillment of his lifelong vision. He noted that the centre would become fully operational next month, with four dedicated vehicles deployed across Anambra to bring in mentally challenged persons from the streets for treatment and rehabilitation.
“This has been my childhood dream,” he said. “In other parts of the world, you hardly see mentally ill persons abandoned on the streets. Sadly, it is a common sight here, and we want to change that narrative.”
He further disclosed that following the completion of this project and the earlier orphanage and elderly home in Imo State, the foundation’s next targets would be Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Rivers, and other states across the country.
Governor Soludo commended the initiative, pledging full government support. He announced plans to construct access roads to the hospital, connect the facility to the national grid, and provide financial support given the free nature of the services.
According to the Seraphic Homes Foundation, the new centre is Nigeria’s first free psychiatric hospital, marking what it described as “a new chapter in the nation’s healthcare and social support system where love, faith, and compassion complement medical science to transform lives.”
“The vision is to create a society where the mentally challenged are not abandoned but embraced, treated, rehabilitated, and empowered to live meaningful lives,” Evangelist Obi affirmed.
