The Ondo State Police Command has foiled a cross-border burglary operation in Ore, arresting one suspect and recovering several stolen items, in what the Command described as part of its sustained efforts to curb criminal activities across state lines.
According to the Police, a distress call was received at the Ore Divisional Police Headquarters from two residents of the community, identified as Sunday and Balogun, who reported that four suspected burglars forcefully broke into their apartments and made away with valuables.
Items reportedly stolen during the incident included two television sets, two motorcycles, three mobile phones—comprising a Redmi 13, an iPhone 16 Pro Max and an iPhone 11—a Zealot X78 Bluetooth speaker, and the sum of ₦670,000 in cash.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer immediately deployed operatives to the scene. The swift response, aided by the cooperation of vigilant members of the community, led to the arrest of one of the suspects.
The suspect was identified as Okemiri Ogonna (male). Preliminary investigations revealed that he is a member of a criminal syndicate believed to be operating across state boundaries, with its base reportedly located outside Ondo State. Police sources disclosed that the syndicate had been under discreet surveillance for some time over its alleged involvement in a series of cross-border burglary cases in Ore and surrounding areas.
During the arrest and preliminary investigation, two television sets and two motorcycles suspected to have been stolen were recovered and secured as exhibits.
Meanwhile, the Police have intensified efforts to track down and arrest other members of the syndicate who are currently at large. The suspect in custody is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reaffirming the Command’s stance on crime, the Ondo State Police Command stated that the state would never serve as a safe haven for criminal elements, adding that individuals who migrate from other states to perpetrate crimes will always be identified, tracked and brought to justice.
The Command commended residents of Ore for their timely report and cooperation, while urging members of the public to continue providing credible and actionable information to aid crime prevention and detection.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for his strategic leadership, sustained support and commitment to strengthening intelligence-led policing nationwide.
The Police further reassured residents of Ondo State of their unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property at all times.
