AGF Clears Fidelity Bank CEO of Criminal Charges, Reaffirms Commitment to Justice

Newslens NG reports that the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice has issued a statement addressing public reactions following the decision to withdraw criminal charges against Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc.
According to the statement, the Attorney General’s decision to discontinue the case is rooted in a thorough review of the facts, which revealed that Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe had no involvement in the alleged fraud. At the time the implicated account was opened, she was neither the account officer nor the Managing Director of the bank.
Citing the constitutional authority vested in the Attorney General to enter a nolle prosequi, a formal notice of discontinuance, the Office emphasized that the move was necessary to prevent a miscarriage of justice and uphold the rule of law.
“This decision reflects our unwavering commitment to justice, fairness, and the legal process,” the statement read. “It does not absolve Fidelity Bank Plc as a corporate entity, as the criminal charge against the institution remains active and is still before the court.”
The Attorney General’s Office urged the public to refrain from speculation and to allow the judicial process to proceed without interference.
Reiterating its resolve, the Office assured Nigerians that justice will prevail, and all those found culpable will face the full force of the law, serving as a deterrent to future misconduct.
