Ayewa’s Family Denies Daughter’s Allegations, Threatens Legal Action Over Defamatory Publications
Newslens NG reports that the family of veteran Nigerian gospel singer and evangelist, Joseph Adebayo Adelakun, popularly known as Ayewa, has broken its silence over the viral allegations made by his daughter, Funmi Adelakun, describing the claims circulating on social media as false, misleading and defamatory.
In a statement issued on behalf of the renowned gospel musician, the family rejected assertions that Funmi was being denied her freedom or unlawfully restrained, urging members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of damaging the family’s reputation.
The statement followed widespread reactions to videos in which Funmi alleged that she had been subjected to years of excessive monitoring and control by her father and appealed to Nigerians to intervene on her behalf. The videos generated intense debate across social media platforms and attracted significant public attention.
Responding to the allegations, the Adelakun family maintained that the narratives being circulated do not accurately reflect the situation, insisting that many reports were based on misinformation and sensationalism.
The family appealed to the public, media organisations and social media users to exercise restraint by verifying facts before publishing or sharing information capable of causing reputational harm.
It further disclosed that legal steps were already being considered against individuals and platforms responsible for what it described as defamatory publications, stressing that those found culpable would be held accountable under the law.
While the controversy continues to generate mixed reactions online, the family expressed hope that the matter would be resolved through the appropriate legal and family channels, rather than through social media speculation.
The dispute has sparked a broader conversation about family relationships, personal autonomy and privacy, with many Nigerians calling for restraint while awaiting further developments from both parties.
