Dangote Refinery Condemns PMS Price Hike Above ₦739/Litre Nationwide
…Warns Against Artificial Scarcity, Urges Nigerians to Report Non-Compliant MRS Stations
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has commenced nationwide sales of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at a regulated pump price of ₦739 per litre across all MRS Oil Nigeria Plc filling stations, describing any sale above this price as unacceptable and exploitative.
The refinery stated that with over 2,000 MRS stations nationwide, the pricing directive is expected to be uniformly implemented, ensuring Nigerians across the country benefit from affordable fuel and a more stable downstream petroleum market.
Commending MRS Oil and other marketers who have complied with the new pricing regime, the refinery urged all industry players to align with the initiative in the national interest.
“We commend MRS and other marketers who have demonstrated patriotism by reflecting the reduced pump price. We urge others to support this effort as a contribution to Nigeria’s economic recovery,” the refinery stated.
Traditionally, the festive season is often marked by fuel scarcity and sharp price increases. However, Dangote Refinery said its intervention has disrupted this trend by ensuring price stability and uninterrupted supply during a period when Nigerians typically face heightened hardship.
Backed by a guaranteed daily supply of 50 million litres of PMS, the refinery noted that the initiative has significantly altered supply dynamics, reduced dependence on fuel imports, conserved foreign exchange, stabilized the Naira, and strengthened national energy security.
The refinery also issued a strong warning against attempts by unscrupulous operators to create artificial scarcity or manipulate supply in response to the price reduction.
“Any attempt to frustrate recent price reductions through artificial scarcity or supply manipulation is unpatriotic and unacceptable. We call on regulatory authorities to remain vigilant and take decisive action against such practices, especially during this festive period,” the statement added.
Dangote Refinery advised consumers to reject inflated fuel prices and patronize stations selling PMS at the approved rate.
“Nigerians are encouraged to avoid purchasing PMS at excessive prices when high-quality, locally refined fuel is available at ₦739 per litre across over 2,000 MRS stations nationwide. Any MRS outlet selling above this price should be reported via 0800 123 5264,” the refinery said.
The company further called on other petrol station operators nationwide to patronize Dangote-refined products to ensure the benefits of the price reduction are passed on to consumers across all outlets.
Reaffirming its commitment to national development, Dangote Petroleum Refinery emphasized that its operations are driven by long-term economic stability rather than short-term market pressures.
“Our objective remains to guarantee steady supply of high-quality petroleum products at affordable prices, strengthen Nigeria’s energy security, and reduce reliance on imports in support of sustainable economic growth,” the refinery concluded.
