Dangote Refinery IPO: Small Investors to Get Priority as Offering Nears Close
Aliko Dangote says applicants investing ₦50,000 and below will receive priority consideration, as Paul Usoro hails strong South-South participation.
President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has announced plans to prioritise investors applying for ₦50,000 and below in the Dangote Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO), as the company seeks to expand public participation in the ownership of the multibillion-dollar industrial project.
Dangote made the announcement during the final leg of the refinery’s nationwide IPO roadshow in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where investors, economists, financial market experts and business leaders gathered to discuss the offering and its potential impact on Nigeria’s economy.
He said the initiative was designed to make the investment opportunity accessible to ordinary Nigerians, particularly small-scale investors who might otherwise struggle to participate in major industrial investments.
“We will prioritise people with ₦50,000 and below,” Dangote said, reaffirming the Group’s commitment to broadening ownership of the refinery.
According to him, the public offering provides Nigerians with an opportunity to invest directly in a major industrial enterprise operating within the country, while contributing to economic development, employment generation and wealth creation.
Dangote noted that international and African investors had already committed substantial capital to the refinery, adding that the IPO would give Nigerians an opportunity to participate in its ownership.
He also encouraged prospective shareholders to adopt a long-term investment approach, noting that increased participation in the capital market could promote financial literacy, encourage savings and strengthen the culture of investment in the country.
Economists Highlight Economic Benefits
The Port Harcourt roadshow featured presentations by economists Bismarck Rewane and Dr Muda Yusuf, who examined the refinery’s potential contribution to economic growth, industrialisation and capital market development.
Rewane highlighted the economic potential of the South-South region, stressing the need to translate its natural resource wealth into sustainable prosperity, infrastructure development and improved living standards.
He also noted that the IPO could deepen Nigeria’s capital market by encouraging more citizens to participate in wealth creation through investments.
Yusuf, in his presentation, described the refinery as a significant driver of economic diversification, domestic value addition, energy security, capital formation and employment generation.
He explained that the project’s impact extended beyond petroleum refining to sectors such as petrochemicals, packaging, manufacturing, logistics and other downstream industries.
Yusuf further emphasised the importance of policy consistency, regulatory stability and sustained engagement with stakeholders in maintaining investor confidence and attracting long-term capital.
Stakeholders at the event also urged prospective investors to carefully assess the company’s operational performance, valuation and long-term business prospects before making investment decisions.
Paul Usoro Hails South-South Participation
The event also attracted attention to the level of investor interest in the South-South region, with legal luminary and business leader Paul Usoro expressing satisfaction with the region’s representation.
“My joy is to see the South-South well represented,” Usoro said, encouraging investors in the region to take advantage of the opportunity presented by the offering.
The Port Harcourt engagement marked the final stop of the nationwide roadshow, which was organised to raise public awareness and encourage broader participation in the refinery’s IPO.
Dangote Group said its objective was to provide Nigerians across different income groups with an opportunity to participate in the ownership of a major industrial enterprise.
The proposed expansion of retail participation is expected to draw further attention to the role of the capital market in mobilising domestic savings, supporting industrial development and creating investment opportunities for Nigerians.
However, prospective investors are advised to review the official offer documents, including the terms of the IPO, share valuation, eligibility requirements and associated investment risks, before subscribing.
