Manchester City have secured an emphatic 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, with second-half goals from Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki extending their perfect start to the 2026/2027 Premier League season.

The visitors capitalised on Liverpool’s numerical disadvantage after midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the second half of Sunday’s encounter, October 11, to claim all three points.

The victory further strengthened City’s position at the top of the Premier League table, taking their tally to 18 points from six matches, three points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.

The encounter began cautiously, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut scoring opportunities during a largely balanced first half.

Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister and Victor Munoz attempted to threaten City’s defence, while Enzo Fernandez and Cherki tested the hosts’ backline at the other end. However, neither team found the breakthrough before the interval.

Liverpool returned from the break with renewed intensity and came close to opening the scoring through Lewis Koumas and Gravenberch, but Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma produced important saves to keep the visitors in the contest.

Mac Allister also fired narrowly wide as Liverpool attempted to take control of the encounter.

City subsequently missed an opportunity through Haaland, who failed to convert Antoine Semenyo’s through ball, before Liverpool suffered a major setback when Gravenberch received a second yellow card for a foul on Doku, reducing the hosts to 10 men.

Manchester City quickly exploited the numerical advantage, with Haaland breaking the deadlock in the 65th minute after Doku’s effort created an opportunity inside the Liverpool penalty area.

Doku doubled the lead three minutes later with a superb curling finish into the top corner, leaving Liverpool with a difficult task of recovering from the two-goal deficit.

Rayan Cherki completed the rout in the 78th minute, finishing a well-worked attacking move involving Elliot Anderson and Joško Gvardiol to seal a memorable away victory for the visitors.

The result was particularly significant for City, who entered the match amid controversy surrounding an independent commission’s findings on alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations. The club has appealed the decision.

Despite the tense atmosphere at Anfield, City demonstrated their resilience to secure another important victory and preserve their unbeaten league record.

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca praised his players for adapting after a difficult opening period, noting that tactical adjustments at half-time helped the team improve in the second half.

City will now turn their attention to their upcoming fixtures as they seek to maintain their commanding start to the campaign, while Liverpool face the task of regrouping after a disappointing afternoon in front of their home supporters.
