BREAKING: Military Veterans Block Pensions Board in Abuja Over Disputed Payments

Published

on

Retired military personnel on Tuesday reportedly blocked the entrance to the Military Pensions Board office in Abuja, protesting the calculation of pension adjustments following salary increases approved for serving military personnel.

The protest, which reportedly began around 8 a.m., saw the veterans gather at the facility to demand fair treatment in the calculation of their pension entitlements. Reports indicated that soldiers were deployed to the premises and prevented the protesters from accessing the office.

The demonstration comes despite an earlier announcement by the Military Pensions Board that implementation of revised pension rates had commenced, with applicable arrears reportedly processed and payments beginning on October 2.

The disagreement has raised questions about how salary increases for serving military personnel translate into pension adjustments for retirees. However, the specific calculations being challenged and the board’s response to the latest protest require further confirmation.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of Concerned Veterans has reportedly threatened a broader protest on Thursday, October 15, if its concerns are not satisfactorily addressed.

The development has renewed calls for the Military Pensions Board and the Federal Government to clarify the pension adjustment formula and provide a transparent process for resolving complaints from affected retirees.
