Nigeria Police Summon APC Senator Fadahunsi Over Alleged Threat Against Accord Members

Newslens NG reports that the Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over a viral video in which he was allegedly heard directing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “kill” members of the rival Accord Party ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The invitation, dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of Elections in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, directed Fadahunsi to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12. The police said the invitation was based on information alleging that the senator made statements considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating” during an APC campaign in Ilesa, with the video subsequently circulated across social media platforms.

However, Fadahunsi has denied calling for physical violence against Accord members, saying his controversial remark was political and metaphorical. In a statement issued by his media office and titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” the senator explained that he was urging APC supporters to defeat the Accord Party at the ballot box through peaceful and democratic means during the election. His media office maintained that he did not call for physical attacks against Accord members or supporters.

The controversy comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, with political parties and security agencies under increased pressure to prevent violence and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
