Ondo Police Identify Officers in Viral Stop-and-Search Video, Launches Full Scale Investigation

Newslens NG reports that the Ondo State Police Command has identified four police officers captured in a viral social media video allegedly making unprofessional and ethnically insensitive remarks to a member of the public during a stop-and-search operation along the Lagos–Benin Expressway.

The Command disclosed that the officers have been identified as ASP Elomore Sodayo, Inspector Adefila Adewale, Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi, and Inspector Odusola Peter.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, has directed a comprehensive investigation into the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the officers’ conduct and determine the level of culpability of each of those involved.

The Command described the development as a matter of serious concern, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined and professional institution that does not tolerate misconduct, incivility, or any action capable of eroding public trust, promoting ethnic division, or bringing the Force into disrepute.

It reiterated that police officers are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, treat members of the public with dignity and respect, and strictly adhere to the Force’s Code of Conduct and Standard Operating Procedures while carrying out their duties.

The statement further assured the public that the investigation would be conducted in line with the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability.

It added that any officer found to have violated the ethics and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures and the law.

The Ondo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professional, intelligence-driven, and community-oriented policing, while urging residents to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by reporting incidents of police misconduct through the appropriate complaint channels.

The Command noted that the outcome of the investigation would be made public after the disciplinary process is concluded.
