The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered a locally made revolver and other exhibits during an intelligence-led operation in Akure, the state capital.
The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Isreal Abakah and 37-year-old Gbene Emmanuel, were arrested on September 27, 2026, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Command.
According to the Command, the suspects were apprehended at different locations within Akure metropolis following credible intelligence on the activities of an alleged armed robbery syndicate operating in the city and surrounding communities.
During the operation, police operatives reportedly raided the gang’s hideout in the Olufoam area of Akure, where they recovered a locally made revolver capable of holding four rounds of ammunition.
Other exhibits recovered from the suspects included suspected criminal charms, a laptop, motorcycle mirrors and a number plate.
The Command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly belonged to a syndicate suspected of terrorising residents of Akure and its environs.
The suspects have also reportedly confessed to participating in several armed robbery operations within Akure metropolis and surrounding areas.
The police said the alleged confessions and recovered exhibits are being subjected to further investigation to establish the full extent of the suspects’ activities and facilitate diligent prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Command said efforts have been intensified to apprehend other members of the alleged syndicate who are still at large.
The ongoing investigation is also expected to determine the possible involvement of the suspects in other reported armed robbery cases and assist the police in recovering additional exhibits.
