Ondo Police Arrest Suspected Interstate Robbery Gang, Recover AK-47, Beretta Pistol

Newslens NG reports that the Ondo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of three suspected members of a notorious interstate armed robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for a string of robberies across Ondo and Lagos states.

The suspects, identified as Promise Daniel (34), Ifeanyi Umahi (29), and Adaramoye Abayomi (37), were arrested on Saturday, July 18, 2026, following what the police described as a painstaking intelligence-led operation.

According to the Command, the suspects were arrested in connection with an armed robbery case initially reported on June 14, 2026, at the Iju Police Division in Ita-Ogbolu, Akure North Local Government Area.
Police operatives, acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, intercepted the suspects while they were travelling in an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz ML 350 SUV.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 18 rounds of live ammunition, an English-made Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition, a UTC axe, and an iron cutter.

The police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects belonged to a notorious armed robbery syndicate that had been on the Command’s watchlist for alleged involvement in several violent robbery operations across Ondo State.

The suspects reportedly made useful confessional statements during interrogation, providing investigators with information that is helping to track down other fleeing members of the gang and unravel the full scope of their criminal activities.
