Ondo Police Apprehend Four Suspect Linked to Assault and Viral Humiliation Clip in Akure

Newslens NG reports that the Ondo State Police Command has arrested four persons over the alleged assault, public humiliation and cyberbullying of a resident whose video was recorded and circulated on social media.

According to the police, the case was reported at the Okuta Elerinla Police Station on Thursday, July 23, 2026, by one Boluwaji Temidayo, who alleged that he was attacked by a group of individuals on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. He further claimed that the suspects recorded the incident without his consent and uploaded the footage on various social media platforms.

Following the complaint, police operatives launched what they described as a technology-driven forensic investigation, using digital intelligence and other investigative tools to track those involved in both the assault and the circulation of the video.

The investigation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Gbemisola Ariyo, Babatunde Eniola, Adams Tobiloba and Fasusi Bunmi. Police said the suspects are currently in custody and have made useful statements to investigators, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons linked to the incident.

The Command stated that all those found culpable at the conclusion of the investigation would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Reacting to the incident, the Ondo State Police Command condemned the growing trend of jungle justice, unlawful public humiliation and the circulation of defamatory content on social media.

The police stressed that no individual has the legal authority to assault, parade or punish anyone merely on the basis of suspicion, noting that every citizen is entitled to constitutional rights, including the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a competent court.

The Command also warned members of the public against recording and sharing videos intended to ridicule, intimidate or incite hatred against individuals, saying such actions could amount to criminal offences under existing laws, including the Cybercrimes Act.

Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of all residents while ensuring that offenders are brought to justice through lawful means.

He urged members of the public to resist the temptation of taking the law into their own hands and instead report suspected criminals to the nearest police station, emphasizing that justice should be pursued through due process rather than mob action or trial by social media.
