EFCC Declares Ex-Pension Boss Abdulrasheed Maina Wanted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The anti-graft agency made the declaration in a notice issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, and signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale. The EFCC urged anyone with information about Maina’s whereabouts to contact any of its offices, the nearest police station or other security agencies.

Maina, 61, previously faced prosecution by the EFCC over allegations relating to the diversion and laundering of pension funds. In November 2021, the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him on money-laundering-related charges and sentenced him to eight years in prison. The Court of Appeal later upheld the conviction and sentence in May 2023.

The EFCC’s latest wanted notice, however, concerns an alleged case of receiving stolen property, separate from the earlier conviction.

Maina had previously been involved in prolonged legal proceedings after failing to appear in court on several occasions. He was arrested in Niger Republic in 2020 and returned to Nigeria to face trial.

The latest development comes amid continued legal and financial investigations linked to Maina and his previous activities.
The EFCC has appealed to members of the public who may have credible information regarding his current whereabouts to assist the authorities in locating him. �
