In a bid to market his candidature to the electorate ahead of the February 25 presidential election, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), took a swipe at the APC-led federal government during his campaign in Osun State on Thursday.

Addressing his supporters in Osogbo, Tinubu said he would succeed president Muhammadu Buhari notwithstanding the opposition against him.

In his words, the former Lagos State Governor said, “We are the ones that installed them; we are the ones that will succeed them. They want to cause us discomfort.”

In recent weeks, Tinubu has been openly criticising the policies and actions of the Buhari administration in a manner that suggests all is not well between him and the president.

Tinubu alleged that the government was working against his ambition by enacting “ill-timed” policies.

Nasir el-Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna State and APC chieftain, also claimed on Wednesday that some elements within the villa were working at a cross-purpose with Tinubu’s ambition.

“I believe that there are elements in the villa that want us to lose the elections because they didn’t get their way,” el-Rufai said.

“They had their candidate; their candidate didn’t win the primaries. I believe that they are still trying to make us lose the elections and they are hiding behind the president’s desire to do what he thinks is right.”

Although it could not be confirmed whether Abubakar Adamu, the APC national chairman, was at the campaign venue, he was not among the APC stalwarts who surrounded Tinubu while speaking on a vehicle.
