Fidelity Bank, Humanitarian Affairs Ministry Distribute 2,000 Food Packs to Vulnerable Abuja Residents
Fidelity Bank Plc has partnered with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to support vulnerable households in Abuja through its Food Bank programme, distributing 2,000 food packs to residents.
The intervention, which forms part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, is aimed at addressing food insecurity, reducing malnutrition and improving the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians.
The partnership was announced at an event held in Abuja to commemorate the 2026 International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
Speaking at the event, Fidelity Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, represented by the bank’s Divisional Head of Public Sector, Richard Madiebo, said the bank’s commitment to poverty alleviation goes beyond food distribution to include entrepreneurship development and other empowerment programmes.
Onyeali-Ikpe explained that the bank had remained committed to community development for nearly three decades, with its CSR interventions designed to address the needs of host communities and promote inclusive growth.
She noted that the Fidelity Food Bank, launched in April 2023, had distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
“Fidelity Bank has always aligned its CSR programmes with the needs of its host communities. We understand the importance of private sector participation in addressing poverty and promoting inclusive development.
“We have delivered 2,000 food packs to residents of Abuja. There are several other initiatives that the ministry and the bank are discussing, and we will allow the ministry to provide further details at the appropriate time,” she said.
Also speaking, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard M. Doro, commended Fidelity Bank for supporting government efforts to improve the living conditions of vulnerable Nigerians.
Doro emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between government institutions and private sector organisations to tackle multidimensional poverty and expand economic opportunities.
According to him, with approximately 63 per cent of Nigeria’s population living in multidimensional poverty, millions of citizens remain excluded from meaningful economic participation, a situation that also limits businesses’ access to potential customers and workforce.
“When 63 per cent of the population lives in multidimensional poverty, a substantial number of people are excluded from economic participation. This also means that businesses are unable to reach a large segment of their potential customers.
“Our responsibility as a ministry is to unlock partnerships with the private sector. Such collaboration is critical to expanding economic opportunities and bringing more people into productive economic activities. We are pleased that Fidelity Bank is fully committed to this effort,” the minister stated.
He urged stakeholders to translate commitments into practical interventions capable of delivering measurable and sustainable improvements in the lives of vulnerable households.
The Fidelity Food Bank is one of Fidelity Bank’s flagship CSR programmes, designed to provide food assistance to communities affected by hunger and food insecurity.
Fidelity Bank Plc is a commercial deposit money bank serving over 9.1 million customers through digital banking platforms, 255 business offices across Nigeria and its United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.
The bank has received several local and international recognitions for its contributions to digital transformation, MSME banking, investment banking and export financing. Its awards include the Euromoney Award for Excellence as Best Bank for SMEs in Nigeria and the BusinessDay BAFI Award as Export Financing Bank of the Year.
