Suicide

has become a common phenomenon in our society today. A couple of weeks back, it was reportedly said that Nigeria recorded over forty cases of suicide in six months! Many now resort to suicide as solution to their problems. But, is suicide really a solution? No! It is not, and can never be!

Suicide is an act of taking one’s life by himself, i. e when someone kills himself or herself. People contemplate or opt for suicide for various reasons. These include frustration, disappointment, business or educational failure, failed or broken relationships, inability to manage shame resulting from an embarrassing situation, etc.

However, the cause there is no justification for suicide.

We all need to understand that when challenges come, they also end in this world. Every problem has an expiry date. There is no challenge that has no solution. No! There is no such challenge as far as I’m concerned. There is also no law, culture, religion or constitution that supports suicide. Whatever you are passing through is a test of time that will surely fade away and things will be better again.

You are thinking there is no more hope, but actually, there is hope because you still have your breath. You don’t have to kill yourself on what will perish and that you will leave in this world. Why should you kill yourself because of what will perish in this world? Does it make sense? No! It doesn’t. Suicide is a crazy kind of solution to problems. Don’t think about it.

Were you jilted by your fiance(e)? Don’t bother, it only means that person didn’t deserve you. Will you die because someone who is not worth your value is separated from you?
Does that make sense? No, it doesn’t.
Therefore, Suicide is not a choice.
Say “No” to Suicide.

If you failed an examination,
just know that you are not the first and won’t be the last. You can always do it again, and better. The contract that was supposed to be yours was given to someone else, don’t worry. An adage says the water you would drink would never flow past you. It is not worth dying for. Therefore,
Say “NO” to Suicide.

Were you raped and you can’t face the trauma? Yes, it is painful but would you because of that
kill yourself? You will definitely be the ultimate loser!
Does that make sense? No! It doesn’t.
Therefore,
Say No to Suicide.

Research has shown that people don’t take action about issues until they have gone out of hand. The society needs to take everything serious when it comes to the issue of suicide.

When someone is depressed, instead of family and friends rising up to savage him/her, they would leave him/her to the problem. We really need to rise up and be our brother’s keepers. A word of encouragement can change someone’s mentality. If we can show more love to ourselves and be more concerned in sharing one another’s burden, suicide cases will reduce drastically in our society.

Take your time as an individual to talk to people, encourage people, give them hope by offering correct and sound advice.

Counseling is fading away in our society today. Parents no longer have time for their children, it is all about acquiring what won’t last and doing other things with their time. Counselling on suicide shouldn’t be done when an individual is about to commit the act, but before, especially when there are covert symptoms. Encouragement is the key and people should be educated that dying is not the solution but having a personal relationship with God. Let us all arise and “SAY NO TO SUICIDE”
