Police promote officer who ‘went into coma’ after being slapped by Seun Kuti

The Nigeria Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the promotion of Officer Mohammed Aminu, who was assaulted by Seun Kuti, to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

The incident, which was captured on tape, showed Seun Kuti assaulting Officer Aminu, who managed to maintain his composure and restraint despite the provocation.

Subsequently, the singer was arrested and charged with assault, to which he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail pending further legal proceedings.

In a statement released on Thursday, the PSC commended Officer Aminu for his unwavering dedication to upholding the principles of the Nigerian Police Force during the incident. Despite the physical attack, Officer Aminu demonstrated a high level of professionalism and adherence to his duty, earning him the well-deserved promotion to the rank of ASP.

Alongside Officer Aminu’s promotion, the PSC also approved the appointment of two Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) and recognized the achievements of other dedicated officers. CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, was promoted to the next rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in recognition of his exemplary service.

Furthermore, the PSC confirmed the appointments of 9,016 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) and authorized the promotion of 14,052 inspectors to Assistant Superintendents of Police (unconfirmed). Among these promotions, Inspector Habila Bulus was elevated to ASP II, acknowledging his gallantry and outstanding commitment to his duty.
