One Dead, 5 Injured As Container Falls On Commercial Bus In Anambra

One female adult lost her life while five other passengers were injured when a container loaded with goods being carried by a red Mercedes truck Thursday night fell on a commercial bus along Awka-Enugu road in Anambra State. The incident happened at Amansea junction by Hausa Market at about 18:45hrs.

It was gathered that one occupant of the bus with registration number FGG88YG was unhurt.

An eye witness said, “The truck driver was carrying a container, and headed for Enugu while the bus driver was heading towards Awka. Because of the bad road, the truck was not stable, and the container fell on the bus.”

Margaret B. Onabe, acting sector public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Anambra State, told newsmen that, “The corpse of the dead victim was taken to Amaku mortuary, Awka, after being confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. The FRSC rescue team managed traffic.”

Meanwhile, the sector commander, Anambra State FRSC, Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, while commiserating with the family of the dead victim, stated that a ‘road audit has been carried out on the Amansea road and forwarded to the appropriate quarters for action’.
