In a message commemorating the occasion, Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo emphasized the importance of democracy as more than just a system of governance, describing it as the embodiment of the people’s will and a foundation for freedom, justice, and equality.

“Democracy empowers every citizen to have a voice in shaping decisions that affect their lives and communities,” he said. “Today is a moment for reflection not only on the progress we’ve made since returning to civilian rule but also on the work that still lies ahead.”

However, he noted that the journey toward sustainable development is ongoing and called on residents to remain actively involved in governance and community-building efforts.

Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo also paid tribute to the heroes of Nigeria’s democratic struggle, acknowledging their sacrifices and urging citizens to honor their legacy by continuing to promote accountability, transparency, and inclusive governance.
