Hon. Dr. Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo Marks Democracy Day with a Call to Uphold Democratic Values

Newslens NG reports that as Nigeria marks Democracy Day, Hon. Dr. Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, a prominent political figure in Ogun State, has extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of Abeokuta North Local Government and Nigerians across the country, urging renewed commitment to democratic ideals.
In a message commemorating the occasion, Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo emphasized the importance of democracy as more than just a system of governance, describing it as the embodiment of the people’s will and a foundation for freedom, justice, and equality.
“Democracy empowers every citizen to have a voice in shaping decisions that affect their lives and communities,” he said. “Today is a moment for reflection not only on the progress we’ve made since returning to civilian rule but also on the work that still lies ahead.”
He highlighted the strides made in Abeokuta North in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education, attributing much of the progress to active grassroots participation. However, he noted that the journey toward sustainable development is ongoing and called on residents to remain actively involved in governance and community-building efforts.
Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo also paid tribute to the heroes of Nigeria’s democratic struggle, acknowledging their sacrifices and urging citizens to honor their legacy by continuing to promote accountability, transparency, and inclusive governance.
In his message, he called on stakeholders including community leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations, and the private sector to join forces in deepening democratic engagement. “It is through collective effort that we can build a society where every voice is heard and valued,” he added.
As the country reflects on its democratic journey, Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo’s message resonated as both a celebration and a challenge to strengthen the democratic institutions that underpin Nigeria’s unity and development.
He concluded with a powerful reminder: “Let us commit ourselves to building a brighter and more prosperous future for Abeokuta North, Ogun State, and the entire nation. Together, we can create a democracy that truly serves us all.”
