HEROISM OF ERELÚ OTA: “BEYOND A THEATRICAL PRODUCTION” – Waliu Adeyeri

The producer of The Heroism of Erelú Ota has announced Monday, May 1, 2023, as the official date for the production of the highly anticipated theatrical performance in Ikorodu.

The theatrical production that tells the untold story of a legend in Ikorodu Kingdom, Erelú Ota, whose bravery and enigmatic power greatly assisted Ikorodu in defeating the warriors of Egba-Ijebu.

The event, which was originally planned to take place in March in honor of International Women’s Day 2023, was rescheduled for May 1st, 2023, in the Ikorodu ultra-modern townhall, due to the elections and the economic crunch in the nation.

In addition to being a fun and entertaining historical revival effort, the event’s goal is to honour Ikorodu women who are breaking barriers in their respective industries and inspire the next generation.

Speaking on the event objectives, the initiator and producer, Waliu Adeyeri, said: “The project, Heroism of Erelú Ota, is beyond a theatrical production; the project sets out to change the narrative about Ikorodu as a home of hooliganism, to promote literary consciousness, and to resuscitate our dying historical accounts.

“This event is necessary at this time Ikorodu is recognised as the third largest city in south-eastern Nigeria and the 12th largest in Nigeria, we are on a mission to showcase to the world that we are not just a city of crowds, but a city of people of inimitable track records and achievements.”

“Among other objectives of the project, it aims to support the campaign for a woman-inclusive governance and promote girl child rights and development.”

“In the light of the above, we have carefully chosen among the arrays of leading figures and girl-child motivators and supporters in Ikorodu Division as our honourees at the event, whose stories will be shared as a source of inspiration to the younger generation in the city,” Waliu added.

Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, ace broadcaster and Queen of Oloja of Lagos-Elect, Olori Sola Kosoko, award-winning educator and former principal of Oriwu Model College, Ikorodu, Alhaja Abiodun Ogunniyi, are enlisted to be honoured at the event.

Also to be honoured at the event are: leading entrepreneur, Alhaja Modupeola Shukurat Abimbola Sanni (Shine Shine), seasoned media personality and Nollywood actress, Mrs. Doyin Kukoyi, the National Chairman of the Association of LG Vice Chairmen, Hon. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, and the PepC Foundation.

The creative director of DBard Creative Media, praised the headline sponsors, FirstBank, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, Hon. Jimi Benson, for their commitment to this initiative.

The Heroism of Erelú Ota will premiere at the Ikorodu Ultra-Modern Townhall on Monday, May 1st, 2023. The event is billed to commence with the red carpet session by 12 noon, while the main event runs from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Heroism of Erelú Ota is the third theatrical production of DBard Creative Media, a creative hub of talents with a mission to be a leading voice in the rejuvenation of our society through creative performances.
