Dangote Fertiliser Limited (DFL) has entered into a strategic partnership with thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology (UFT), a subsidiary of thyssenkrupp Uhde, to license its state-of-the-art UFT® Fluid Bed Granulation Technology for four new urea granulation units in Nigeria.

Under the agreement, thyssenkrupp Uhde will provide a comprehensive technology license, Process Design Package (PDP), and supply of proprietary equipment including granulators and scrubbers.

Each of the four new units will have a nameplate capacity of 4,235 metric tons per day, expanding DFL’s total annual urea granule production from approximately 2.65 million tons to over 8 million tons. The new facilities will be constructed in Lekki, adjacent to DFL’s existing fertilizer complexes commissioned in 2021 which already utilize UFT® technology and produce 3,850 metric tons per day each.

The upcoming plants will feature UFT’s energy-efficient scrubbing system, designed to minimize pressure drop while effectively controlling dust and ammonia emissions in compliance with stringent environmental standards. They will also incorporate the Ammonia Convert Technology (ACT), which enables the integration of ammonium sulfate byproducts into urea granules eliminating waste streams and providing both logistical and commercial advantages.

Commenting on the partnership, Nadja Haakansson, CEO of thyssenkrupp Uhde, stated:
