Court Sentence Three Oriire School Kidnap Suspects to Life Imprisonment Over Oyo Abduction

Newslens NG reports that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced three suspects to life imprisonment for their involvement in the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The convicts were found guilty after pleading to charges bordering on concealing information about the masterminds of the school abduction, a development that paved the way for their conviction by Justice Salem Ibrahim.

The Federal Government had accused the defendants of withholding vital information relating to those responsible for orchestrating the kidnapping of the students and teachers in Oriire. The court subsequently imposed life imprisonment on all three for their roles in the incident.

During the proceedings, the defendants also admitted to being members of Darul Salam, an organisation authorities identified as an affiliate of the proscribed terrorist group, Ansaru.

In addition, two of the convicts, Abdulrazak Umar and Shamsudin Adamu, pleaded guilty to charges of providing training and instructions to members of a WhatsApp group allegedly used to incite acts of terrorism. Prosecutors told the court that the group, titled “The Oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace,” was allegedly created to promote extremist activities.

One of the convicts, Abdulrazak Umar, also admitted to illegally mining gold in the Chaza area of Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State without lawful authorisation.

The judgment marks a significant milestone in the prosecution of suspects linked to the high-profile Oriire school abduction, reinforcing ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to combat terrorism and secure justice for victims of violent crimes.
