The Returning Officer, Arimoro Priscilla Oluwakanyinsola, declared Aroyewun winner of the keenly contested poll late Saturday night at the council secretariat, following a day of peaceful voting across the LCDA.

Aroyewun, who voted at polling unit 009, Yewa/Odofin Junction around 10:55am, had earlier expressed confidence in securing a landslide victory, citing the electorate’s support for the APC-led government in the state and at the federal level.

Speaking after his victory, Aroyewun commended the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for conducting what he described as a credible and transparent process.

“The people came out en masse to elect those who will lead them at the grassroots. LASIEC’s performance today is commendable. Though there were minor incidents, the process reflected the integrity expected of an electoral body,” he stated.

Outgoing Chairman of the council, Sesan Daini, also applauded the electoral process and praised security agencies for maintaining order. He projected that the APC would achieve sweeping victories across all 57 councils in the state, describing the poll as a pointer to Lagos’ political direction ahead of 2027.

Similarly, a former Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Adebimpe Akinsola, lauded the early arrival of electoral materials and the prompt deployment of ad hoc staff, which she said contributed to the smooth conduct of the election.

“There was impressive voter turnout, which is a testament to the people’s endorsement of the APC’s governance in the state and country. We expect APC to secure victories across Lagos,” Akinsola said.

APC chieftain and member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, also hailed the process and voter participation after casting his vote within the LCDA.
