Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the recent 2023 general elections, has been vocal about Nigeria’s economic growth and the welfare of its citizens. Recently, he took to his X handle to express his concerns over Nigeria’s exclusion from the Harvard Business School’s Global Immersion Course for the class of 2025.

Obi pointed out that Nigeria’s negative image was highlighted by the program’s decision to exclude the country, even though a Nigerian professor leads the initiative. Instead, Kenya, Rwanda, Morocco, and Ghana were selected as the four African focus countries. The program aims to teach students leadership, teamwork, and cross-cultural understanding by immersing them in various global environments.

Obi lamented the potential setback this exclusion represents, he said “The students have chosen Nairobi, Kenya as their first preference and have been attached to various Kenyan companies to study and present solutions to real-world problems. This omission of Nigeria is particularly striking given the country’s potential and capabilities.”

He expressed concern that Nigeria’s reputation and attractiveness to international institutions and investors have been severely impacted by significant drawbacks. Noting that the class of 2025 program demonstrates the power of collaboration and knowledge sharing between institutions and countries.

In his final remarks, Obi expressed hope that Nigeria would acknowledge its shortcomings and work towards improving its reputation and attractiveness in the global community. He stated that the challenge of building a new Nigeria remains a possibility.
