The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed that social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been invited by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, to substantiate allegations he made against the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, AIG Moshood Jimoh.

The Force also disclosed that AIG Jimoh has been invited by the FCID as part of an administrative review into the allegations, stressing that no officer is above investigation when credible complaints are raised.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the invitation to VeryDarkMan was formally issued on July 30, 2026, requesting him to appear before investigators with evidence to support the allegations he made publicly against the senior police officer.

The Police explained that the underlying criminal matter referenced by the activist had already been investigated and is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Consequently, the Force said it would not allow the matter to be litigated in the media or influenced by public campaigns.

While reaffirming Nigerians’ constitutional right to freedom of expression and to demand accountability from public institutions, the Police warned that such rights do not extend to making unsubstantiated allegations or defamatory statements intended to pressure disciplinary actions outside established legal procedures.

The statement emphasized that any officer found culpable after due investigation would be sanctioned in accordance with the law. However, it also noted that where allegations are found to be false and deliberately aimed at damaging the reputation of officers or the institution, the Nigeria Police Force reserves the right to seek appropriate legal remedies.

The Force urged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation from the FCID, cooperate with investigators, and allow both the administrative review and the ongoing judicial process to proceed without interference.
