Recently, news surfaced online that LASTMA officers in Lagos are now using POS machines on Lagos Roads. However, the authority of the agency has provided fresh information on the trending topic.
The authority of Lagos State Traffic Managment Authority (LASTMA) has provided an explanation on the matter in a 1:38 minutes video posted on their Twitter page, where the traffic agency reacted to the trending message, saying that the machines Lagos drivers have found with its officers are called “Traffic Managment Solution” (TMS).
In the video, Adebayo Taofeek, the head of the LASTMA public affairs and enlightenment department, said the TMS machines’ purpose is digital means to identify transport offenders for prosecution.
“This TMS camera is to enhance transparency in traffic management and scientifically address indiscipline on our roads. These cameras captured any traffic infractions from a distance and real-time video and photograph evidence.”
He further explained that the camera would capture anyone contravening the traffic law in the state, and such a person would receive notification on their phone detailing his offense and the amount of fine the offence attracted.
In the video, he also urged Lagos drivers to abide by traffic rules, such as avoiding making illegal U-turns and driving against the traffic light. He also sent a warning to commercial drivers concerning picking up passengers at non-designated stops as well as causing traffic on Lagos streets.
This is to enlighten road users on the new Lagos State Traffic Management Solution (LAG-TMS) device.#FollowLASTMA@followlasg@lagosmot18@Gidi_Traffic@TrafficChiefNG @trafficbutter pic.twitter.com/OFXjv3CFFw
