Ex-CJN Tanko Gets Top National Award From President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has honoured the immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Ibrahim Tanko, with the national award of Grand Commander of the Order of Niger, GCON.

The award Naija News understands is coming barely 24 hours after Tanko’s resignation as CJN was confirmed in a letter.

Tanko was honoured with the prestigious award at the swearing-in ceremony of the Acting CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The event was reportedly witnessed by a few dignitaries, including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and some Justices the of Supreme Court.

Naija News understands that the award conferred on Tanko is the second-highest honour in the country.

President Buhari commended Tanko for his service as the CJN and wished him well in his next phase of life.

Recall that Tanko stated in his resignation letter that he resigned over health issues.
