Dangote Cement Commissions ₣100 Billion Cement Plant in Côte d’Ivoire
Dangote Cement, a subsidiary of the Nigerian industrial conglomerate founded by Aliko Dangote, has officially inaugurated its new cement plant in Attingué, Côte d’Ivoire approximately 30 kilometers from Abidjan. The announcement was made by the Managing Director of Dangote Cement Côte d’Ivoire, Serge Gbotta, during a press briefing held at Novotel Abidjan-Marcory.
Spanning over 50 hectares, the ultra-modern facility boasts an annual production capacity of 3 million metric tonnes, making it one of the largest Dangote Cement plants outside Nigeria. The ₣100 billion CFA franc investment underscores the company’s commitment to industrial growth, economic diversification, and regional self-sufficiency.
“This plant represents more than just an industrial investment it is a symbol of confidence in Côte d’Ivoire’s future,” Mr. Gbotta stated. “Our mission is to deliver world-class cement, produced locally and sold at competitive prices to meet the needs of Ivorian consumers.”
With this new addition, Côte d’Ivoire becomes the 11th African nation to host a Dangote Cement production facility, contributing to the group’s total installed capacity of 55 million tonnes per year across the continent. The Attingué plant is projected to create over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, fostering youth employment and empowering local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including transporters, artisans, retailers, and suppliers.
To build local technical capacity, the company also announced the introduction of specialized training programs for young engineers and technicians through the Dangote Academy, aimed at developing skills in industrial operations and management.
Speaking on the plant’s economic impact, the Commercial Director of Dangote Cement Côte d’Ivoire, Stéphane Tchimou, emphasized its importance to the nation’s construction sector. “High-quality, reliable cement is essential for masons, contractors, and builders. Through an extensive distribution network, we will ensure that our products are accessible across all regions of Côte d’Ivoire,” he said.
He further revealed plans to introduce support initiatives such as credit facilities and business assistance for small-scale distributors to strengthen the cement value chain.
Beyond industrial expansion, Dangote Cement reaffirmed its commitment to corporate social responsibility. The company is investing in community development projects around Attingué, including road construction, clean water access, and support for local health centers, in collaboration with government agencies and NGOs.

The Attingué plant will produce multiple cement grades CPJ 32.5R for masonry, CPJ 42.5N for general construction, and CPA 52.5 for large-scale infrastructure projects reinforcing Dangote Cement’s position as a key partner in Côte d’Ivoire’s construction and infrastructure development.
Equipped with cutting-edge technology and sustainable production systems, the new facility is expected to significantly reduce cement imports and position Côte d’Ivoire as a strategic hub for cement production and export within the West African region.
