Newslens NG reports that after poor run to the start of the new season, the Dutch giants, Ajax have sacked Dutch tactician, Maurice Steijn barely four months after appointing him.
Recall that Ajax appointed Maurice Steijn as the head coach of the club on June 14, 2023, after signing a three-year deal with the Dutch side.

On October 23, a day after he led Ajax to suffer a humiliating 4-3 defeat at the hands of FC Utrecht, the Dutch giants decided to sack the 49-year-old tactician.

This means that Maurice Steijn is leaving the club after overseeing a total of 11 games in all competitions in which he recorded just two wins. In the league, they are currently sitting on the 17th spot with 5 points in 7 games, a point below the relegation zone.

Despite this abysmal state at the Dutch giants, Steijn told reporters on Sunday that he is prepared to stay at the club to help turn things around.

“I’ll stay combative to turn things around for this club. I feel support and I think I will remain as manager”, Steijn said after Ajax’s 4-3 defeat at the hands of FC Utrecht.

“When I enter the club, I can feel the support from the people within the club, and from my players and my staff”.

Unfortunately, members of the club’s board have a different idea as they couldn’t watch their team sink into relegation under the tutelage of coach Maurice Steijn.

They will have to get a coach before Thursday, October 26, when they are scheduled to take on Premier League club, Brighton in the Europa League group stage.
