Burna Boy’s Mum Opens Up On Managing His ‘Unfiltered’ Personality
Newslens NG reports that Bose Ogulu, mother and manager of Grammy-winning Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy, has opened up about the delicate balance between managing her son’s career and allowing him to remain true to his personality.
Ogulu made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels Television, where she discussed Burna Boy’s personality, his social media activities and some of the controversial moments that have accompanied his public image.
According to her, there is a noticeable difference between how she conducts herself online and how her son interacts with his followers, particularly during Instagram Live sessions.
Ogulu explained that Burna Boy’s personality has several dimensions and argued that the same emotions that sometimes lead to his controversial outbursts are also responsible for qualities that fans admire in his music.
She likened artistes such as Burna Boy to a tapestry, stressing that attempting to remove one aspect of their personality could affect the qualities that make them unique.
She said, “You can always notice the difference between when I tweet and when Burna tweets. What I’ve come to learn is that artists like him, they’re like tapestry. If you pull at one thread too hard, everything will unravel.”
The music executive added that the approach within the family is to allow Burna Boy to express himself while intervening when his online activities go too far.
“Within, we do what we can. I usually grab his phone from him anytime he goes wild on Instagram Live,” she said.
Ogulu’s comments offer an insight into the relationship between the singer and his mother, who has played a major role in managing his career while also navigating the challenges that come with being his parent.
Her remarks also highlight the difficulty of separating an artiste’s public persona from the emotions and personality that often influence their creative expression.
Burna Boy has remained one of Nigeria’s most prominent global music acts, while his outspoken personality and unfiltered interactions on social media continue to attract significant attention from fans and critics alike.
