Fidelity Bank Boosts Maternal, Child Healthcare at ESUTH with CSR Outreach

Published

Fidelity Bank Plc has strengthened maternal and child healthcare delivery at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Parklane, through a targeted Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreach that brought relief to indigent patients, pregnant women and children battling chronic illnesses.

The intervention, carried out under the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP), saw the bank offset outstanding medical bills of vulnerable patients, provide financial support for children requiring long-term care and distribute ante-natal kits to expectant mothers. The project was funded and implemented by newly inducted staff of the bank, the Optimizers Inductees Class of 2025, with matching financial support from Fidelity Bank.

Speaking during the outreach, the Divisional Head, Brand and Communications Division, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to improving lives through purposeful social investments aligned with its CSR pillars.

According to him, Fidelity Bank remains focused on supporting communities beyond banking services by intervening in areas that directly impact quality of life. He noted that the support would not only help families settle lingering hospital bills but also enable some children to continue receiving critical medical care.

Dr Nwagboh added that the timing of the intervention was particularly significant, as it allowed many families to reunite and celebrate the festive season without the burden of unpaid medical expenses.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, the Chief Matron of the Children’s Ward, Mrs Esther Nnaji, lauded Fidelity Bank for the timely support, describing it as a lifeline for families struggling with the rising cost of healthcare.

She disclosed that several children on admission were battling serious conditions such as cancer and sickle cell disease, adding that the bank’s intervention would ease the suffering of both patients and their families.

Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to the bank for the gesture. One of them, Mrs Adaeze Ilo, whose baby’s hospital bill was fully paid, said the support came at a moment of despair after months of hospitalisation with no clear means of settling the bill.

Similarly, Mrs Jane Anthony, whose son’s medical expenses were cleared, said her family had resigned to spending Christmas in the hospital before the intervention, describing Fidelity Bank’s support as a divine intervention that restored hope.

The outreach to ESUTH underscores Fidelity Bank’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and promoting community well-being across Nigeria through impactful, community-driven CSR initiatives.
