Dangote Petroleum Refinery has firmly refuted recent media reports alleging that it is importing finished petrol with high sulphur content into Nigeria, describing the claims as baseless and misleading.

In a statement released on Friday, the company explained that, as a world-class, fully integrated refining complex, it processes a diverse range of crude oils and intermediate feedstocks, a standard global practice designed to enhance efficiency, optimise production, and ensure superior product quality.

“The cargo being referenced is an intermediate feedstock, not finished petrol,” the company clarified. “It will undergo complete refining through our processing units to meet both Nigerian and international quality specifications.”

Operating within a Free Trade Zone, Dangote Petroleum Refinery reiterated that it produces and sells only high-quality fuels that strictly comply with all regulatory standards. The company further noted that its successful export of petroleum products to highly regulated markets such as the United States and Europe reflects its unwavering commitment to international quality and safety benchmarks.

The refinery also emphasised that every imported feedstock is accompanied by detailed quality certificates, which are transparently shared with relevant regulatory agencies. “In the spirit of full transparency and accountability, we are also prepared to make these documents publicly available,” the statement added.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery reaffirmed its dedication to advancing Nigeria’s energy self-sufficiency, upholding global best practices, and consistently delivering cleaner, high-quality fuels for both local consumption and international markets.
