Newslens NG reports that Truckers operating in the nation’s Maritime industry under the auspices of the Council for Maritime Truck Unions and Associations have written to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu over forceful collection of three thousand Naira (#3,000) daily tickets from trucks moving around Lagos by the Lagos State Trucks and Cargo Committee (LASTCOC), a committee established by the ministry of transportation, Lagos State.

In a letter dated 24th September, 2024 titled ‘REQUEST FOR CLARIFICATION ON COLLECTION OF THREE THOUSAND NAIRA(#3,000) DAILY TICKET FROM TRUCKS IN ADDITION TO WHARF LANDING FEES’ Signed by the National President of COMTUA, Adeyinka Aroyewun said the collection commenced in January and truckers have been forced and coerced into paying the said fee.

He said the association have challenged this act in court but the group has since been violent to enforce the ticket.

“We seek clarification from your office on the issue of double taxation, as we are compliant with the wharf landing fee. Secondly, the ticket has been handed over to members of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners, this association represents his members and not all of us in the Maritime transport industry.

“We are law abiding people, and we do not want the issue to degenerate into violence as our members have been pushed beyond their tolerance level on the matter”, he said.
